History of Department

The Department of English has a long history of serving as one of the supporting departments in Meiktila University of Economics (MEUE).  It was established in 2001, by the time the university was founded. It has come alongside MEUE since the university was founded as Meiktila Institute of Economics in 2001. Our department has taught Business English for several years to all students who admitted to the university. We have been providing four skills of Business English learning to all admitted students over the past twenty years.

Several teaching staff, from Professors to Tutors in the Department of English work under the supervision of the Head of the department. Our Heads of the department have served to this university from 2001 to the present day. All of our Heads of the department who have served from 2001 to this day are:

Vision

Our vision is to help students recognize themselves as professionals, as part of a disciplined society with skills and abilities once they have entered the business world. We aim to give students the opportunity to enrich their skills regarding the Business English whether they are on campus or off campus.

Mission

Our mission is to provide an effective learning environment for students. We make sure that we build students up by teaching four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. We help students acquire the knowledge of effective communication in business environment by means of using English language as a tool. We help them learn to write business letters, emails as well as to communicate with English speaking clients, customers etc. The modules we provided not only help them acquire the Business English proficiency but also the ability to use practical experience which they have learnt from the textbooks.

Objective

We aim to help students obtain good command of Business English by focusing on the discussion, texts, language work, and language skills. Our ultimate aim is to help students gain Business English skills that they can later apply in a workplace.

Daw Yi Yi Khin is an associate professor at the Department of English, Meiktila University of Economics. She obtained her Master Degree in English at Mandalay University in 2002. She received the Dip in ELT; Diploma in English Language Teaching from Mandalay University in 1997. She has many experiences when she was serving at various universities such as Shwe Bo Degree College, Mandalay University, Kyaing Tong University, Myinchan Degree College, Yadanarbon University, and Military Computer and Technological Institute. Currently, she is serving as the Head of English Department in Meiktila University of Economics.

Daw Mya Mya Moe is an Associate Professor, Department of English in Meiktila University of Economics. She got her first degree, B.A. English in 1994, Dip. in ELT in 1997 and her second degree, M.A. (English) in 2000. She is interested in teaching Business English. Her research papers are published in national research journals.

Daw Cherry Naing Lwin is a Lecturer from Department of English in Meiktila University of Economics. She got B.A. English (Hons.) in 2011 and M.A. English in 2014. She teaches Business English.
