History of Department

Vision

– To offer premier undergraduate and post graduate educational experience to the students that expends their understanding of the role of statistics.

– To offer quality statistics education that produces life-long learners, creative problem solvers, productive employees and responsible citizens.

Mission

– To provide the students with the basic as well as advanced theoretical and practical knowledge (intensive teaching and training) of statistical principles in various analytical methods and expose them to better awareness of the various factors that influence modern approaches (use of software) to descriptive and inferential statistics.

-To promote professionals in the field of statistics.

-To promote probabilistic approach in all decision making problems and scientific thinking in the society.

Dr. Phyu Phyu Khaing

Professor/Head

Department of Statistics

Dr Phyu Phyu Khaing is a professor and Head of Department of Statistics, Meiktila University of Economics. She obtained her B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 1998 from Yangon University of Economics. She also held her Ph.D degree from Yangon University of Economics in 2013. She is currently a  Director of Research Department in Meiktila University of Economics. In addition, she also achieved certificate of Teacher Training in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Myanmar-Singapore Training center. Her specialized fields of study is   Econometrics, Applied Statistics and Research Methodology. She gives lectures on Advanced Statistical Inference in M.Econ (Statistics) and Ph.D. class. She also teaches statistics and research methods for public administration in MPA, Statistics for Business Administration and Business Research Methods in MBA programme. She takes the role of supervisory in M.Econ (Statistics) and Ph.D. dissertations of Research Department.

U Maung Maung Thwin

Associate Professor

U Maung Maung Thwin is an associate professor, Department of Statistics in Meiktila University of Economics. He obtained B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 1984 and B.Econ (Statistics) Honours degree in 1985 from Institute of Economics (Rangoon).  He held M.Econ (Statistics) in 1995.  The title of his Master Thesis is “Jackknifing the Multivariate Ratio and Product Estimators in Double Sampling”.  He also obtained a certificate of AMSM-1 (SME) from Yokohamer Kanshu Center, Japanin 2004.  He is giving lectures in M.Econ (statistics) and Ph.D classes.  His specialized fields of study are Research Methodology, Multivariate Statistical Analysis, Stochastic Processes and Sample Survey Methodology. He is also a Ph.D candidate.  The field of his study in Ph.D thesis is Demography and the title of his thesis is Population Projections and Some Aspects of Labour Pool Model for Myanmar.

Daw Myint Myint Thein

Daw Myint Myint Thein  is an associate professor, Department of Statistics in Meiktila University of Economics. She obtained B.Econ (Statistics) Honours degree in 1994 from Institute of Economics (Yangon).  She also held M.Econ (Statistics) in 1997.  The title of her Master Thesis is “ Multivariate Linear Models with Missing Observations”.  She also obtained a certificate of “Seminar on Energy Industry and Economics Development for Myanmar in 2014” from MOFCOM, China in 2014.  She is giving lectures in third year and final year Statistics students.  Her specialized fields of study are Time Series Analysis, Research Methodology and Sample Survey Methodology.

U Aung Naing Win

U Aung Naing Win  is a lecturer at the Department of Statistics,  Meiktila University of Economics. He obtained his B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2003 from Monywa University of Economics.  He also obatined held his M.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2008 from Meiktila University of Economics.  He is giving lectures on Basic Statistics in first year, qualitative data analysis in third year, and sample survey metodology in fourth years. His specialized fields of study are econometric and applied statistics.

U  Win Naing Oo

U Win Naing Oo is an associate professor of Department of Statistics, Meiktila University of Economics. He obtained his B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2002 from Yangon University of Economics. He also holds hisM.Econ (Statistics) degree from Yangon University of Economics in 2007. His specialize field of study are Econometrics, Sampling and Socio-Demographic. He teaches Statistics for Diploma in Business Study and Basic Research Methodology for Diploma in Marketing in Mandalay University.

Daw Aye Aye Khaing

Daw Aye Aye Khaing is an associate professor, Department of Statistics, Meiktila University of Economics. She obtained B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2002 from Yangon University of Economics. She also held M.Econ (Statistics) degree from Yangon University of Economics in 2007 and Master of Economics from Chiang Mai University in 2018. In addition, she also achieved Diploma in English from Yangon University in 2006 and Certificate of Supporting Teaching Excellent from U.K Higher Education Academy and British Council Workshop in Myanmar in February 2017. Her specialized fields are Econometrics and Applied Statistics. She is giving the lecture on Advanced Econometrics and supervising the thesis in M. Econ (Statistics).

Daw Win Min Thant

Daw Win Min Thant is a lecturer at Department of Statistics,  Meiktila University of Economics. She obtained her B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2002 and M.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2006 from Yangon  University of Economics. Her specialized fields of study are Statistical Inference and Operation Research I. She takes the role of supervisor in M.Econ (Statistics) and term paper.

Daw Ei Ei Lwin

Tutor

Department of Statistics

Daw Ei Ei Lwin is a Tutor at the Department of Statistics, Meiktila University of Economics. She obtained B.Econ (Statistics) degree in 2016 from Meiktila University of Economics. She also obtained the M.Econ (Statistics) in 2019 from Meiktila University of Economics. In 2021, she is working as a Tutor at the Department of Statistics in Meiktila University of Economics. Her specialized fields of study are Time series analysis and Basic econometrics.
